Jan 23-24:Thaipusam | From Little India to Waterfall (Jalan Kebun Bunga via Jln Dato Keramat) | Celebration involves a pilgrimage procession led by kavadis, breaking of coconuts
Jan 29-31: Penang International HALAL Expo & Conference 2016 (World Curry Festival) @ SPICE Arena | Event to promote diverse curry and spices from all the world, World Street Food, Culinary Class for food and curry lovers.

February Events

Feb 7-22: Kek Lok Si Display of Lights @ Kek Lok Si Temple | Annual lighting display showcasing more than 10,000 lights at the 125 year old temple.
Feb 8-9: Chinese New Year Celebration | Celebration of the first day of the Lunar Calendar. Public invited to attend the Chief Minister’s open house on 8th Feb @ SPICE Arena.
Feb 9-10: Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta @ Padang Polo |Display of 15 hot air balloons, ‘night glow’ shows, free flying balloons and cold inflation.
Fab 12: Snake Temple Celebration @ Snake Temple (Ban Ka Lan) | “Fire Watching Ceremony”, various cultural dances, food stalls, exhibitions and exciting performances
Feb 13: Penang Chinese New Year Celebration @ Esplanade, Light Street, King Street, Penang Street, Church Street, Bishop & Beach Street | An annual state Chinese New Year event, experience traditional and cultural games and performances, street food, etc.
Feb 19-20: International Chinese Kung Fu Festival 2016 @ Han Chiang School Hall (19th) & The Banquet Komtar 5th Floor (20th) | A gathering of Senior Masters from Malaysia and overseas such as Hong Kong, China and other parts of the world to share the secret application in Kung Fu.
Feb 22: Chap Goh Meh Celebration @ Esplanade | Celebrated on the 15th night of the Lunar New Year a.k.a Chinese Valentine’s Day. Grand fireworks display, street food as well as games, performances, Baba Nyonya cultural show.
Feb 28: Hakka Cultural Festival @ Balik Pulau | Traditional Hakka games, handicrafts, dances, singing performances and many more.

March Events

Mar 4-5: St. Patrick’s Festival @ E&O Hotel (4th) & Straits Quay (5th) | 2016 is the year Ireland celebrates 100 years of independence and we will share this celebration with the community here in Malaysia.
Mar 10-12: Nurture Engage Exchange (NEX) – Leadership Conference @ Olive Tree Hotel | Showcasing international experts from all fields including sports, management, businesses, public services and personal development. A program that is designed to inspire and motivate you greatly!
Mar 25-27: Disney on ice magical ice festival @ SPICE Arena | Favourite Disney characters such as Anna and Elsa from Frozen, The Little Mermaid, Rapunzel from Tangled, Beauty and the Beast and many more.

April Events

Apr 13: Songkran Festival @ Wat Chayamangkalaran Thai Buddhist Temple & Dharmlkara Burmese Buddhist Temple | A traditional Thai Festival that is celebrated in Penang by devotees to wash away bad luck through liberally splashing water on each other.
Apr 23: Vaisakhi Celerbation @ Penang Time Squares | The Sikh feast marks the harvest festival and the religious Khalsa Janam Divas. It is usually celebrated with singing and danceing in a colourful carnival like atmosphere.
Apr 15: Mygeorgetown Short Films Show @ Narrow Marrow, 252 Lebuh Carnarvon: 8:30pm| Mygeorgetown is a collection of short films which paint a portrait of a city in danger of losing its soul. Is George Town’s rich cultural history dying when people like the 91-year old Mr. Ong is forced out of his building? Or is the city simply reinventing itself with a new generation like Elyas who opens George Town’s first vintage barbershop? The films are narrated by the director, Ryan Anderson, who also tells background stories in-between films.
Apr 17: The Penang International Triathlon & Duathlon (PGITD) @ Teluk Bahang Dam| The event is now in its fourth year and has been attracting sports enthusiasts from Malaysia and all around the world. Apr 15-24: Penang Fashion Week @ Gurney Paragon Mall | Highlight of Penang’s fashion industry that showcases the beautiful masterpieces by internation brands and homegrown retailers and designers.
Apr 26-28: SEMICON Southeast Asia @ SPICE Arena | The biggest congregation of Semiconductor Ecosystem – focusing on key trends and solutions in semi-conductor design and manufacturing.

May 15: Penang Golf Tournament @ Penang Golf Club | An annual international event to promote sport tourism in Penang
May 18-20: World Tourism Mart – Asia @ Straits Quay Convention centre | The inaugural WTM Connect Asia will bring together suppliers of SEA and international travel products to meet with Hosted Buyers from all over the world.
May 21: Wesak Day @ Malaysian Buddhist Association | Observed by devottees to celebrate Buddha’s birthday, enlightenment and achievement of Nirvana. There will be procession of floats with colourful flowers and bright lights accompanied by children singing and monks chanting prayers.
May 28-29: Penang International Dragon Boat Festival @ Teluk Bahang Dam

Jun 1 – July 31: Penang Durian Festival @ Nibong Tebal & Markets in Penang | Durian season in Penang is from June to August. A chance for locals and tourists to sample exotic Penang durians of different varieties.
Jun 3-5: Auto-City Carnival @ Auto City, Juru | Display of cars, contests, shows and entertainment.
Jun 3-5: PGM Asian Development Tour (ADT) @ Penang Golf Club | ADT is a professional competition where players from Asia, Canada, USA, Australia and some European countries take part in.
Jun 11-12: Penang International Lion Dance on Stilts Championship @ Han Chiang Stadium | Witness exciting performances from >20 local and international teams as they battle it out for the championship title with the most creative and eye-catching lion dance on stilts stunts.
Jun 7 – July 5: Ramadan Bazaar @ Komtar pedestrian walk & along many streets of Penang | During the Muslim fasting month, a sumptuous array of food, local delicacies, festive cookies and religious items will be sold in the Ramadan Bazaar.

July 2-3: Penang MITM Travel Fair @ SPICE Arena | Annual travel event in Penang, where consumers can purchase flight tickets and travel packages at promotional pricing. Entrance is free.
July 6-7: Hari Raya Adilftri | A Muslim celebration of the start of the Syawal month where open houses are organised to welcome family and friends.
July 7: Georgetown World Heritage Day | A public holiday to commemorate the inscription of George Town as a World Heritage City by UNESCO. Traditional dances and martial arts, exhibitions, street performances, special tours and talks.
July 16: Penang Bon Odori Festival @ Esplanade | A traditional and merry Japanese festival that is celebrated with dance and lively drum performances to welcome the homecoming of ancestral spirits.
July 22-31: St Anne’s Festival @ St Anne’s Church | A 10-day prayer ritual that draws many believers from all walks of life. Witness a candlelight procession at Penang’s The Church of St. Anne, built in 1957.
July 27-31: Comedy Musical – Nunsense @ Penang Pac | Originally produced in the US in 1985 it’s had over 5,000 productions word wide and been performed in more than 20 different languages – and it’s still playing now! Directed by Richard Harding Gardner, with musical direction by Llew Marsh and choreography by Joseph Gonzales, this revival will feature the talents of veteran and new talents of the local theatre scene in the roles of the comical nuns. July 29-Aug 28: George Town Festival @ Georgetown | Penang’s most anticipated cultural festival, George Town Festival celebrates George Town’s 2008 inscription as UNESCO World Heritage Site as well as Penang’s strong passion for local arts and entertainment.

August Events

Aug 3-31: Penang Hungry Ghost Festival @ Georgetown | Penang celebrates the Hungry Ghost Festival with staged opera performances and puppet shows at roadsides.
Aug 31: Merdeka Parade | An annual Merdeka Parade organised by the Penang State Government.

September Events

Sep 3-4: International Lion Dance on Stilts Championship @ Megamall Shopping Complex, Seberang Perai | An action packed and exhilarating competition with teams from all over Malaysia, Vietnam, China and more battle it out for championship title.
Sep 15: Mid Autumn Lantern Festival @ Kepala Batas | Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated widely in Penang. It is a time when family and friends gather to admire the full moon while savouring Moon Cakes, Chinese tea and parading around with colourful Chinese Lanterns.
Sep 16: 54th Malaysia Day Celebration @ Fort Cornwallis | A special concert organised by the Penang State Government to commemorate the establishment of Malaysia Day.

Oct 2: Awal Muharram | Awal Muharram marks a very significant event in Islamic history Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) emigration from Mecca to Medina.
Oct 17-19: World Tourism Conference @ E&O Hotel | Delegates from 70 over countries including Ministers and Government Officials will be participating in this conference which focus on topics in relation to tourism policies within member countries
Oct 29: Deepavali | “The Festival of Lights” celebrated by the Hindus in Penang.

November Events

Nov 20: 2016 Penang Bridge International Marathon @ Penang Bridge (old bridge) | Held annually on the Penang Bridge, the iconic bridge that connects the Malaysian Peninsular to the island of Penang.
Nov 25-26: The Penang International Open Ballroom Dancing Competition @ Bayview Beach Resort | This annual premier dance competition is anticipated to attract over 800 participants from more than 30 countries around the globe.

December Events

Dec 1-4: Penang Island Jazz Festival @ Bayview Beach Resort | The Penang Island Jazz Festival features local and international performers performing in the main festival at Bayview Beach Resort and at the fringe stage at various other selected venues throughout the island.
Dec 10-11: Pesta Dragon Boat Race @ Teluk Bahang | Held in conjunction with Pesta Pulau Pinang, this is a tradition to honor the “spirit of the dragon” and the spirit of unity as they work together as a team for one common purpose.
Dec 18: Pesta Chingay Parade @ Jalan Gurdwara to City Hall, Esplanade | The Chingay and Lion Dance troupe members will display their skills in balancing stilt poles during this annual street parade.
Dec 24-25: Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Celebration | The Christian population in Malaysia celebrates Christmas to remember the birth of Lord Jesus Christ.
